Toddlers and preschoolers love pictures and picture books. We found this Jumbo book with real pictures from Jarir bookstore (in KSA). I believe real pictures help kids relate to the real world better then the graphical images found in many books now. What we chose to expose our kids to is what they want more of, both my kids prefer books that have real images over artificial illustration. H learned most of her animals and their sounds from this book.
Real image books give children a chance to see the world in its natural and real state Allah SWT made it in, then a wanna be image. However, I am not at all saying that you shouldn't use books with illustration, story books are awesome, we have tons with illustration but also tons with real images.
